Sound

Pencil has some elementary sound support. To add some sound, create a sound layer. Then select the “Import sound…” command in the File menu under Import and choose a Sound, be sure to select why type of sound (be it WAV or MP3). This will create a triangular key in the sound track at the frame where the timeline scrubbing bar is at. The key indicates where the sound will start to play. You can move this key like any other key. A sound layer does not play any sound when it is deactivated. All sounds can be turned on and off for the whole animation by pressing the sound button in the the time-line controls.

Note that the sound will play the sound until it is finished, even if the last image keyframe was played before the first keyframe for the sound.

i had the same problem honestly, and i cant figure out whats up. i tried to see if the nightly build would fix it, but, at least for the most up to date build, the sound doesnt even come in as a proper whole and tries to go in as a single layer. can any mods help?

Hi, sorry to hear about your issues as well. For further assistance on your issues please use the forum here: http://www.pencil2d.org/?post_type=forum the manual is not a place to comment on bugs because the devs are only aware of the forum.

I’ll answer you the same I answered the other user. Right now Pencil has sound capability but it’s disabled because the program is in a pre-alpha stage and developers are wrking hard to fix critical bugs and broken features. You won’t be able to import sound in MAC or Linux. On windows there’s a small fix that “might” work if you do it properly. Again it’s all in the forums 🙂 but I’ll link it here for further people looking into an WINDOWS AUDIO FIX POST VERSION 0.5.4b

hey. i just got the program and i love it. however, the audio for some unknown reasons sounds somewhat robotic and distorted. is this a bug with the program or the audio?

Glad to hear that you like the program. It is already known that Pencil2D has it’s sound playback function disabled because it wasn’t working properly. Developers are looking into better solutions to improve on this most-desired feature. For now if you’re using the Windows workaround please bear in mind that it is a HACK, not a full fix, so it is expected to misbehave. For now we all have to be patient meanwhile each bug and issue is fixed in a timely manner. Next time please post in the forum, these comments are not ideal for providing support as you don’t get external feedback for your replies.
