Pencil2D development continued: 0.5.5 is on it’s way!

Hi all Pencil2D fans. This is Matt, I’m back.

First of all, I have to apologize to you for not being so active in Pencil2D development in the past year. 2014 is a tough year for me, my work occupied nearly all my time and energies. And what is worse is to see a “Development ceased?” post on the forum ;(

After the rush has just finished, I can finally come back to my lovely Pencil and start to contribute.

I think the most important task for now is to release a stable version of Pencil2D. There are already a lot of new features in development branch, but it’s buggy, I know.

I will start browsing all bugs on Github issue tracker and try to fix them as soon as possible. You can report bugs you’ve found using issue tracker, it’s easier for us to follow and manage than post on forum.

      It’s probably easier to unlearn the habits of writing unstructured procedural code if you haven’t learned them in the first place 😉 These days straight C doesn’t get much use outside of kernel programming, so it’s an arcane skill to try to acquire.

    Fantastic! I was getting worried for a while. I am making a animated series on the web and I would love to use Pencil2D as my go to software 🙂

    Awesome! Could I recommend a MAJOR bug fix, please? Sound is vital in my animations, and every time I import a sound, Pencil crashes. I’m using a Mac OS X Yosemite, and I’m using Pencil v0.5.4 dev. Thanks!

    If the Pencil2D software is “completed”, are you gonna change the name to just “Pencil”? (Because the name “Pencil” sounds cool and simple)

    (Also, the forum is broken!)

    Yay! I really want to start animating, alas, everything that’s good and works on mac costs quite a bit. But I can’t use this until it’s updated because I use sound ;v;

    (Also I can’t even access my account on here anymore for some reason .-.)

    “On it’s way”. Oh well, I know unexpected things come up, and development takes a long time, but this should have been a minor thing, according to the version number (0.5.4 to 0.5.5). Nothing for it but to be patient I guess…

    I would love to use this with my students but we would need to export and I haven’t been able to do that yet. We use macs.

    Thanks for all the work that has been done already!

    Just please, please, PLEASE for the love of GOD just fix the sound import bug.

    Isn’t much use having an animation software if you can’t give your animation life with sound

      Devs are doing what they can to fix critical bugs as fast as possible. We ALL are being patient with this issue, because we need it as well. We are looking into stable video/audio libraries so we can have the best support for sound and video there is in the open-source realm. Sit tight for good things will come sooner than you’d expect! 🙂
